Included in World Cup squad

Vega (knee) will be available for the Mexican national team in the World Cup following the announcement of the country's 26-man roster.

Analysis: Vega was at risk of being left out of the top international competition because he's not 100 percent physically as he plays through pain in the knee he had surgery on in January, but he's fit enough to see action and even took part in a friendly game against Australia on Saturday, delivering an assist during that match. Still, the playmaker might see reduced involvement in the summer competition, given that he's now in contention with Cesar Huerta and Julian Quinones, the latter of whom has gained plenty of ground thanks to his superb form. In any case, Vega should take set pieces whenever he's on the field, and he could be a solid attacking option on the left flank.

Joining national team early

Vega won't be an option for Toluca in the Clausura knockout stage as he's set to work with the Mexican national team, who included him in an initial list of Liga MX players.

Analysis: Vega is aiming to play a significant role for his country after building momentum in the last few Liga MX games, producing one assist in each of his last two starts. The attacker was sidelined due to a knee injury between November and March, after which he made a gradual return to action. All of Pavel Perez, Jorge Diaz and Sebastian Cordova may get opportunities to produce on Diablos' left wing in the key player's absence. With his place in the World Cup secured, Vega will hope to be selected over Julian Quinones on the flank and could deliver some set pieces at the international level.

Delivers assist in win

Vega made an assist, had three shots (one on target), created two chances, sent in three inaccurate crosses and drew five fouls during Saturday's 4-1 win over Leon.

Analysis: Vega made an early impact by assisting Sebastian Cordova for the opener with just five minutes into the game and then kept delivering, being involved in many dangerous plays and forcing defenders to foul to stop him. That's now back-to-back games with an assist for the forward, who started in six of the last seven games and is getting closer to his best form after missing several months due to physical issues.

Logs assist in loss

Vega made an assist, had one shot on goal, created three chances, sent in seven crosses (one accurate) and was shown a yellow card during Wednesday's 4-3 loss against Mazatlan.

Analysis: Vega once again relied on his role as set-pieces taker to bring danger and one of the corner kicks he took resulted in an assist for Antonio Briseno to score Toluca's second goal. That's now 10 assists this season for the forward, but just the first in Clausura tournament as the forward is just getting back to his best form after returning from a knee injury that sidelined him for four months.
